February 7th 2010 – my 365 – starring down the barrel of a lens

For 2 days I have been trying to get my SLR lenses and flashes to work on my iPhone. I have been unsuccessful so far. I also haven’t looked it up on the net to see if it’s possible to sync your flash or use any lenses.

So tonight, this is starring into the barrel of my 70-300 lens

February 6th 2010 – my 365 – Daddy’s Change

My second daughter made this for me.  It’s now empty because of the cup below it.

February 5th 2010 – my 365 – Mystery Kodak roll of film

Uh-oh…we found a roll of film 2 nights ago.  We’re going to take it to get developed this weekend.  If the photos are safe, then I’ll post them to show the world.

February 4th 2010 – my 365 – Motley Crue Live

Went to go see the Crue last night with my wife and brother.  What a great show.

Airbourne opened the show.  These guys are awesome.  I highly recommend you go to iTunes and download their cd’s.  You won’t regret it.

Joe Perry Project.  What a sleeper!  I’m sorry but some guitar players need other musicians to refine their songwriting and turn them into greatness.  Joe unfortunately can’t do this on his own.

Motley Crue – Great band…terrible singer.  I think Vince maybe got 40% of the words.  Kind of disappointing, but what do you want he’s never been great live.

February 3rd 2010 – my 365 – iBanez?

I wonder if Apple made a guitar, would they call the an iBanez?  ok.  Lame joke, I’ve been reading too many posts from Scott Kelby lately.

Gear Wednesdays – Modifying flash

Hello fellow photographers and internet friends.  Tonight I wanted to show you a few different ways of modifying your flash.  For my model tonight, I used my Ibanez 7 string guitar.  My wife just didn’t feel like being in front of the camera again.

As I showed in my 365 pic from yesterday, we’re going to modify the light using an umbrella.  I have a 32″ photoflex umbrella.  It cost about $40.00 at Henrys.

From Left to right:

Direct flash – It lightens up the image but doesn’t have even lighting across the guitar.  Mostly a nice big hotspot on the bottom right.

Direct flash with Gary Fong – Still pointing the flash right at the guitar, so you still have a hot spot on the bottom right, with the light a little more diffused.

Flash bounced inside the umbrella -  Now we’re starting to get somewhere.  As we get a bigger lighting source, the light gets a little better.  It’s still not covering everything, but the lighting is softer.

Flash in Shoot Through – Ahhh, here we go.  Nice even light.  Big light source.  The lighting even reaches the top of the guitar.

That’s our short lesson for tonight.  I’m really excited to keep working with off camera flash and diffusing the light.  Stay tuned for more episodes.

February 2nd 2010 – my 365 – This umbrella is not to be used outside

I’m getting ready for my gear Wednesday.  Here is my new shoot through umbrella.  Stay tuned for tomorrow night.

February 1st 2010 – my 365 – my sick little guy

Poor little Hayden.  Second ear infection in 2 weeks.  He was suppose to be asleep at 8:00pm, but at 8:45, he was still awake and eating/drinking.  There’s just nothing we can do for the little guy.  Mostly it’s me that can’t do anything for him.  He is the biggest Mommy’s Boy, so unfortunately Susie has to do all the consoling.  However, I get Desiree.  She is the Daddy’s Girl.  So I’m not sure if that’s better or worse.
